The Spencer Educational Foundation Inc., which supports risk management and insurance education with scholarships and grants for students, on Monday named 70 full-time undergraduate, graduate and pre-dissertation Ph.D. students as its 2018 Spencer Scholars.
The students, selected and screened from a record pool of more than 730 applicants, represent 28 schools, the New York-based foundation said in a statement. The foundation has awarded 1,051 scholarships.
The foundation awarded 62 undergraduate scholarships at $5,000 each, five master’s scholarships at $10,000 each and three pre-Ph.D. dissertation scholarships at $10,000 each, for a total of $390,000.
The foundation’s scholarships are merit-based and take into consideration academics, leadership, industry interest and experience. Each application was reviewed by every committee member.
Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc. has pledged $100,000 to the Spencer Educational Foundation over three years to establish the Steven E. Penman Memorial Scholarship in tribute to the company’s late chief operating officer.
