Red light cameras aren’t just being used to catch speeders anymore. In one Louisiana parish, cameras are catching drivers who don’t have insurance.
In Avoyelles Parish, just northwest of Baton Rouge, cameras mounted on trailers capture license plates as the cars drive by, and if the car lacks insurance, the owner of the vehicle receives a $500 ticket in the mail, reported Louisiana news station KALB.
The parish’s district attorney told the news station that those caught by the camera will have the opportunity to prove they have insurance, or if they take parish help in securing insurance, their fine may be reduced to $200.
