Ekhosuehi Iyahen has been appointed the first secretary general of the Insurance Development Forum, the IDF announced Wednesday.
The IDF, which was launched in 2016 by the International Insurance Society, is a collaboration between the United Nations, the World Bank Group and the insurance industry.
Ms. Iyahen “will be a visible and central point of contact for the IDF, establishing and building out the IDF Secretariat in London hosted by the International Insurance Society,” the forum said in a statement. “She will also support the design, development and implementation of the IDF’s operational activities.”
Ms. Iyahen’s appointment takes effect Oct. 1. She previously held senior positions at two catastrophe risk pools: the African Risk Capacity and the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility.
“The appointment of Ms. Iyahen as Secretary General comes at an important moment in the IDF’s development, complementing its current thought-leadership, partnerships and industry-shaping activities with a more operational focus,” Stephen Catlin, chair of the IDF Steering Committee, said in the statement.
The Insurance Development Forum aims to incorporate insurance industry risk measurement expertise into existing governmental disaster risk reduction and resilience frameworks and to build out a more sustainable and resilient global insurance market, the IIS said at the time of its formation.
The International Insurance Society on Thursday said it has formed the Insurance Development Forum, a collaboration between the United Nations, the World Bank Group and the insurance industry.
