Jennifer McNelly has been named executive director of the American Society of Safety Professionals.
Ms. McNelly will start at the helm of the Park Ridge, Illinois-based organization, which has more than 37,000 members, on Aug. 16, according to a statement released Monday.
Ms. McNelly most recently served as president of 180 Skills L.L.C., an Indianapolis-based online career and technical education company, and was previously president and executive director of the Washington, D.C.-Dbased Manufacturing Institute, the 501(c)(3) affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers.
“Sound safety practices are socially responsible and good business, leading to increased productivity, a better reputation and higher employee satisfaction,” she said in a statement.
She replaces Dennis Hudson, who is retiring after 11 years with the society, two years as the executive director.
An independent agency may be ready to curtail the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s perceived overuse of the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s general duty clause to cite employers for failing to provide safe workplaces to their employees, according to some legal experts.
