Liberty Specialty Markets on Tuesday said it has rebranded its reinsurance division as Liberty Mutual Re, effective immediately, and launched a reinsurance operation in Italy.
The rebrand covers all aspects of Liberty Specialty Markets’ reinsurance division, which consists of 180 people in 14 locations, Liberty said in a statement.
The Italian operation is based in Rome and Milan and will begin trading immediately. Massimiliano Fantini, who was Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C.’s country manager for Italy for five years, will head the operation, and become Liberty Mutual Re’s general manager for reinsurance for Italy. He will be based in Milan.
In addition, Liberty Mutual Re’s U.S. operation has begun to write marine business. Scott Johnson, formerly with Munich Reinsurance Co., has been appointed to lead Liberty Mutual Re’s marine account. He will report to James D’Onofrio, Liberty Mutual Re’s general manager for the U.S., and be based in Stamford, Connecticut.
The cost of workplace injuries and illnesses continues to rise despite a drop in the number of workplace incidents, according to the 2018 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, published Tuesday.
