German carmaker BMW A.G. has expanded its recall of vehicles owing to faulty airbags manufactured by Takata Corp., The Motor Report reported.

BMW is recalling a further 28,577 vehicles in Australia due to the Takata airbag defect.

The recall affects BMW's 3 Series, 5 Series and X5 SUVs.

The recall covers vehicles sold in Australia between January 2002 and December 2005.
