BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Travelers' workers compensation premiums up

Reprints

When I have time I like to look at insurers' quarterly reports just to see how work comp sales are doing.

Overall, Travelers Cos. Inc. reported a $499 net profit during the second quarter of 2012, compared with a net loss of $364 million a year earlier.

Year-to-date net written premiums for the workers comp line rose to $1.744 billion, up from $1.532 billion through the second quarter of 2011.

Some of that growth must be due to improvements in the overall economy and firming prices.

For its national accounts overall, Travelers reported that “Net written premiums of $226 million increased 20 percent from the prior year quarter primarily due to increased renewal premium change driven by payroll exposure growth and strong retention rates. In addition, the repopulation of workers' compensation residual market pools contributed to premium growth in the second quarter 2012.”
