With some 25% of their workforces set to reach retirement age by 2018, the risk management and insurance industries are stepping up recruiting efforts.
They are being helped by targeted college programs and in-house apprenticeships, among others. In 2015, the top 20 undergraduate risk management and insurance programs in the country, as surveyed by Business Insurance, saw combined enrollment increase 17% from 2014.
Companies including Zurich Insurance Group Ltd. and American International Group Inc. are taking a more direct route, teaming up with nearby schools to create apprenticeship programs. Even chapters of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. are facilitating training and recruitment.
Besides reports on these and other topics, the 2015 Business Insurance directory of risk management schools lists the nation's top colleges for those interested in risk management and insurance careers. It includes information on programs offered; accreditation status; number of courses offered, including online; faculty numbers; and supplemental programs such as international exchange programs and internships. Some schools also report their placement rates.
