Would-be top legal officers appear to … um … break the law

Making sure you are following your state’s laws would seem to be a good idea if you are running for attorney general, but a couple of candidates for the office in Massachusetts appear to have fallen short of the ideal.
After an inquiry by the Boston Globe, the campaigns of Democratic candidates Andrea Campbell and Quentin Palfrey confirmed on Tuesday that they did not have workers compensation coverage in place for their staff, apparently in breach of state law, the paper reported.
The campaigns, which have been running for months, said the lack of coverage was an oversight and that they would immediately obtain coverage.
An official on Ms. Campbell’s campaign said the failure to buy coverage was a mistake by a compliance firm the campaign used, the paper said.
While such an oversight is hardly unprecedented, it’s notable in a race where Ms. Campbell’s campaign recently ran an ad declaring “no one is above the law,” the Globe noted.
