BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Elizabeth “Betty” Clarke

The Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. on Monday said the RIMS Ontario Chapter has presented Elizabeth “Betty” Clarke, manager, corporate risk and recovery for the City of St. John’s, Newfoundland, with the Donald M. Stuart Award.

The award has been given annually since 1979 to celebrate Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to the risk management profession, RIMS said in a statement.

Ms. Clarke has led the City of St. John’s risk management function for the last 16 years, developing a cross-departmental, risk-aware culture that has enabled the growing municipality to effectively address evolving and emerging risks, RIMS said.

“Risk management continues to be a unifying force at the City of St. John’s, bringing different government agencies together to provide a safe, clean and entrepreneurial environment for residents and local businesses,” Ms. Clarke said in the statement. “It has been a privilege to share my experiences with Canada’s risk management community.”

Ms. Clarke has served as a director with the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of RIMS (NALRIMS) for the last 15 years, occupying various positions including president from 2005 to 2007, RIMS said.

She has also served at the national level, chairing RIMS Canada Council in 2012 and 2013 and co-chairing the RIMS Canada Conference in 2009 and 2018.

Carolyn Exelby, enterprise risk manager for Flight Centre Travel Group, is this year’s recipient of the Fred H. Bossons Award, RIMS said.

This award honors the risk management professional who earns the highest average mark on the three examinations required to attain the Canadian Risk Management designation.
