BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Labor safety task force finds 93% of businesses out of compliance

California’s Labor Enforcement Task Force issued 26 orders shutting down unsafe machines or operation at workplaces it inspected during the fiscal year 2017-2018 and found that 93% of businesses inspected were out of compliance with labor laws, according to an announcement Tuesday by the California Department of Industrial Relations.

The task force, known as LETF, is charged with identifying “bad actors” and uncovering violations in high-risk industries such as agriculture and construction by matching data from various state agencies and using targeting methods, according to a statement.

In its investigations, LETF assessed over $10 million in initial penalties for a variety of labor law violations, including failure to maintain a valid workers compensation insurance policy, wage theft, exposing employees to unsafe working conditions, and failure to carry required licensing, according to the statement.

The labor commissioner’s office also issued 275 stop orders to employers with no workers compensation insurance coverage, according to the statement.
