Tokyo's old town districts at high quake risk

An earthquake risk assessment by the Tokyo metropolitan government showed that 85 areas mainly in old town districts were at the highest risk from quakes, Nippon.com reported. The high risk districts are located in the eastern riverside municipalities of Adachi, Arakawa, and Sumida and account for 1.6% of the total area in Tokyo. The areas include old wooden houses concentrated on relatively soft ground. The assessment took into account risks such as building collapse and fire.
