Filipino politician calls for probe into government reinsurance contracts

Pantaleon Alvarez, speaker of the Philippines' lower house of parliament, has called for a probe into the reinsurance contracts awarded to local insurers by the Government Service Insurance System, Manila Bulletin reported. Mr. Alvarez said that there are concerns about whether local reinsurers possess the necessary capitalization and financial reserves to comply with their reinsurance obligations should the need arise.
