Kenyan insurers have no disposal capital to pay claims: Report

A report by Kenya-based Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services Ltd. found that several local insurers have almost no disposable capital or capacity to pay claims in case of any shocks in the market, Standard Digital reported. Insurers have been spending more cash than necessary in spreading their risks at the expense of policyholders, the report said. It also found that insurers operate at an average capital adequacy ratio or solvency level of 131%, compared with the Insurance Regulatory Authority's requirements of at least 200%.
