Japanese general insurers such as Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc., Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co. Ltd., and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd. are offering coverage to businesses for potential losses caused by negative viral content on the Internet, The Mainichi reported. It cost companies about 3 million Japanese yen ($27,330) per month and an average of around three months to address negative viral content aimed at the company. Database risk consultation services provider Eltes Co. Ltd. said that the amount of online content generating negative responses against companies increased from 102 in 2010 to 1,002 in 2015.
