A report by piracy watchdog ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre has said that there only 2 hijackings of ships for the purpose of oil cargo theft in Asian waters in the first half of 2016, reported Ship & Bunker.
There was a 65% year-on-year decrease in the number of piracy and armed robbery incidents during the period, said ReCAPP.
Only one incident was recorded in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore in the first half, compared to 55 incidents during the corresponding period of 2015.
