A report has found that the probability of a strong earthquake occurring in areas along Japan's Nankai Trough within 30 years has increased by 1 to 2 percentage points, reported The Japan Times.

A quake measuring lower 6 or stronger on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 is likely to hit Japan.

The report found that the Kanto, Chubu and Kinki regions that cover Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka cities are vulnerable to shaking due to soft ground.
