RSA Insurance Group P.L.C. has appointed Doug Stewart to the newly created role of chief risk officer for the United Kingdom and western Europe, the insurer announced Monday.

Based in London, Mr. Stewart will be responsible for governance of risks to RSA’s U.K. and western European businesses, including strategic, insurance, reputational, operational and financial risk, the insurer said in a statement.

Mr. Stewart will take up the role on March 1.

He previously was risk director for the financial services practice at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd. in London.

“I am delighted to welcome Doug to RSA’s global risk team as chief risk officer for our U.K. and western European businesses,” William McDonnell, group chief risk officer at RSA, said in the statement.

“In addition to bringing extensive and practical experience of operating and enhancing risk and control frameworks across different sectors, his experience of delivering and assuring major change programs will be invaluable as we continue to transform our business,” he added.
