BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

2015 40 Under 40 Broker Awards: Jason Sandler

Principal

Digital Benefit Advisors

Age: 36

As a benefits professional working in a rapidly changing and challenging environment, Jason Sandler, a principal with Digital Benefit Advisors in Dallas, says he knows he's not always delivering the best news to his clients.

So one of the biggest lessons he's learned in his career is “being genuine and sincere and caring ... regardless of who you're talking to, from a decision-maker (or) CEO down to an employee,” he said.

Colleagues respect him for doing just that.

“His success is attributed not solely to but in a big part because he's humble,” said David Martin, a Madison, Wisconsin-based managing principal with Digital Benefit Advisors. “He realizes this is a challenging environment with the rising cost of health care, and he knows his clients need to feel like they're on their side.”

Mr. Sandler began his insurance career in 2004 with DSG Benefits Group L.L.C., which was acquired by Digital Benefit Advisors in 2012 — a transition he facilitated that led to a 70% increase in revenue for the firm's Dallas office.

Mr. Sandler now manages a team of 12 employees serving clients in Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

He was honored last year with his company's President's Award, which is given to an individual with a positive, lasting impact on the firm.

He hopes to continue developing and growing his team, and take on more responsibility for a larger region.

“You never know what obstacles, challenges (or) items are going to come across your desk that day,” Mr. Sandler says of what he finds rewarding about the insurance industry. “It kind of keeps you on your toes.”
