Insurers boost investment in Indian insurers

Japanese insurers are increasing their investments in Indian insurers after the limit for foreign direct investment in Indian insurance sector was raised in March, reported Nikkei Asian Review.

India increased the FDI limit in insurance sector from 26% to 49%. Japan's Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd. and Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc. are looking to raise their stakes in their respective Indian joint ventures. Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance is looking to spend 5.4 billion Indian rupees ($83 million) to increase its stake in its Indian joint venture.
