Damage from storm estimated at nearly half of GDP

Roosevelt Skerrit, prime minister of Dominica, said that a preliminary assessment found that basic infrastructure damage from tropical storm Erika that recently hit the country amounts to almost half of the country's gross domestic product, reported The Associated Press.

Mr. Skerrit said that repairing roads and bridges would cost at least $226 million and more than $14 million is required to rebuild one of the country's airports. "Every piece of equipment at the airport has been destroyed beyond use," added Mr. Skerrit.
