State of emergency declared prior to rains, floods

A state of emergency has been declared in towns in 14 regions of Peru for 60 days to prepare for damage from El Nino in the rainy season, reported Reuters citing Andina news agency.

The country has predicted a "moderate to strong" El Nino in the winter season. The El Nino weather phenomenon has triggered landslides and caused damage to local fishing in the country in the past. Many chief fishing and mining areas are among the regions placed under state of emergency.
