Rains damage crops worth $161.7 million in India

Heavy rainfall across India's Maharashtra state has resulted in extensive damage to crops, Hindustan Times reported.

Preliminary estimates show damage to Rabi crops worth 10 billion Indian rupees ($161.7 million).

More than 40,000 hectares of farm land has been damaged.

Crops such as wheat, jowar and gram have been affected.

Horticultural crops have also been damaged in the state's Nashik and Konkan districts.

Maharashtra's chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked concerned authorities to submit a report concerning damage to the government.
