China: Coal mine fire kills 26 in Liaoning Province

A fire in a coal mine in China's Liaoning Province has claimed 26 lives, Xinhua reports.

The mine is operated by Liaoning Fuxin Coal Corp.'s unit Hengda Coal. An official at Fuxin coal said 52 people have been injured, with 18 of them in critical condition. The fire engulfed a work platform that was located 800 meters below the ground, said another official. Initial investigations suggested that the fire might have been triggered by a small quake near the mine.
