Fewer but stronger typhoons expected to hit Vietnam: Meteorologists

Meteorologists have said that Vietnam is expected to see fewer, but stronger typhoons in 2014 ahead of a severe drought, which is likely to arrive in November, linked to the El Nino phenomenon, reports Thanh Nien News.

The nation may "may suffer from 5 to 6 typhoons this year,” Hoang Duc Cuong, director of the National Center for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting, said. In 2013, Vietnam was hit by 17 typhoons and tropical depressions, the expert said.
