Peru: U.S. miner Doe Run ordered to pay $163 million for environmental failures

A high court in Peru has ordered U.S.-based mining firm The Doe Run Resources Corp. to pay $163 million for its failure to implement adequate environmental measures at its La Oraya site, Agence France-Presse reported.

The company's contract for the site stipulates that it should implement strict preventive measures to protect the environment in the region.

An analysis report recently said Doe Run's refinery is contaminating air, land and soil in the area.
