Cyber attacks on oil, gas firms could cost billions: Expert

Cheryl Martin, director for U.K. cyber security at CGI Group Inc., said cyber-attacks could cost oil and gas companies "billions of pounds" in lost revenue, The Scotsman reported.

"These ‘hacktivists’ and activists would be delighted to take over the production on an oil rig," Ms. Martin said. Security experts claim that a cyber-attack on North Sea oil and gas production is only a matter of time, reports The Scotsman. Cost reduction measures have left North Sea installations vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
