India: Coca-Cola's Varanasi plant closed on pollution board orderReprints
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd.'s plant in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has been shut due to alleged violations of environmental norms, Business Standard reported.
The company had not obtained clearance from the Central Ground Water Authority, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board said. Coca-Cola, citing a 2012 Central Ground Water Board report, said the ground drying in the area around the plant was not because of "withdrawal of ground water by" the plant.
