Mexico: Independent insurance regulator needed, says expert

An industry expert in Mexico has said the country's insurance sector needs a more independent regulator, BNamericas reported.

The comments by Carmen Hoyo, senior economist at Mexican financial group BBVA Bancomer, follow a similar view by the International Monetary Fund, which said the existing regulator Comision Nacional de Seguros y Fianzas should have more autonomy.

Ms. Hoyo told regional newspaper El Economista that more independence for the regulator would result in better supervision.
