Indonesia: Gross energy premiums surge in 2013

Gross premium volume from the energy sector surged multiple-fold to 1 trillion Indonesian rupiahs ($82.2 million) in 2013 from IDR 127.64 billion ($13.2 million) in 2012 according to Okezone.com.

The General Insurance Association of Indonesia has said the increase in the country's oil and gas exploration activities has significantly driven the demand for insurance in the sector, the newswire reports. The association said the general insurance sector's overall performance for 2013 was better than that in 2012.
