Japan: Damage to agriculture from heavy snow totals $643.5 million

Heavy snows in Japan this month caused damage worth 65.8 billion Japanese yen ($643 million) to agriculture in nine prefectures in central and eastern parts of the country, preliminary government estimates suggest.

Greenhouses suffered significant damage, collapsing under the snowfall, The Japan Times reported citing Jiji Press. An official in the Gunma Prefectural Government said "about 60% of all greenhouses in the prefecture sustained damage."
