China: Deadly bird flu cases risingReprints
China is experiencing a surge in the cases of the H7N9 bird flu, with health officials reporting 73 cases so far, BBC reported. H7N9 made the jump from infecting birds to infecting humans in March 2013.
The World Health Organization said the virus could remain present for some time. John McCauley, director of a World Health Organization collaborating center on influenza in London, said the H7N9 strain is "highly virulent and the case fatality is about one in three, so it poses a threat."
