Thailand: Political turmoil to cost economy about $604.6 million


The University of Thai Chamber of Commerce predicted that the ongoing political turmoil would cost Thailand "economic loss of approximately 20 billion Thai baht ($604.6 million)," Kriangkrai Thiannukul, deputy president of the Federation of Thai Industry, said.

Mr. Thiannukul said if the situation worsens, the damage will be catastrophic, Khaosod reported.

Many Thai and Southeast Asian businesses are headquartered in Bangkok, where protesters are planning a shutdown on Jan. 13 2014.
