State of natural catastrophe declared for cyclone-hit French island Reunion

France has declared a state of natural catastrophe for the island of Reunion following a cyclone that caused heavy floods and power cuts, RFI reported.

Cyclone Bejisa is the worst storm that hit the island in 20 years.

France's minister of overseas territories Victorin Lurel said the island's residents will be eligible to make insurance claims for damages from the cyclone.
