SAN FRANCISCO — The Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. has presented its 2013 RIMS ERM Award of Distinction to Harley-Davidson Inc.
The award, presented at this year’s RIMS ERM Conference in San Francisco, is intended to recognize organizations that have created value through their enterprise risk management program.
Among criteria for the award are the scope of the ERM program, its link to the organization’s overall mission, and the organization’s ability to derive value through the ERM effort.
In accepting the award, Rob Gould, director of internal audit at Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson, said the motorcycle manufacturer’s ERM program “promotes insight, debate and discussion.”
“I think it’s really essential that you build your risk management program into the planning cycle,” Mr. Gould said.
RIMS also recognized Bangalore, India-based Infosys BPO Ltd. as honorable mention in this year’s ERM Award of Distinction program.
A study suggests that companies are increasingly emphasizing the value of risk management to their organizations, seeing risk management as a function that enables growth and execution rather than “the department that says no.”
