Marsh Ltd. has appointed Jane Barker as chairman, the brokerage announced Monday.

Ms. Barker, who is CEO of Equitas Ltd., the company set up to reinsure and run off the pre-1993 long-tail liabilities of Lloyd’s of London syndicates, has been a nonexecutive director of Marsh Ltd., the London-based arm of Marsh Inc., since 2010.

She will succeed Sir Peter Middleton as chairman, Marsh said in a statement.

Ms. Barker is based in London.
