BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Three dead from explosions at Boston Marathon

Three people — including an 8-year-old boy — were killed, and 17 were critically injured by two explosions near the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon, according to various news reports.

The bombings sent 176 people to area hospitals, Police Commissioner Edward Davis of Boston said Tuesday.

Video from the scene showed police, fire department and other emergency workers responding to the explosions, treating the injured people and sealing off the area near Boston's Copley Square.

The explosions occurred after the top runners had already finished the race but while thousands of others remained on the course. Officials immediately halted the race, and subway service in the area was suspended.

“There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened,” the Boston Marathon said on its Facebook page.

Some media accounts reported the discovery of unexploded devices at other sites in Boston. A third explosion was reported to be a controlled explosion of a device found by law enforcement officials who were reportedly at work dismantling other devices.

As a precaution, New York City and Washington D.C. officials stepped up security in those cities, including at the White House.
