BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Rep. Riesberg named Colorado insurance commissioner

DENVER—Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has named state Rep. Jim Riesberg, who also is a veteran of the insurance industry, as the new state insurance commissioner effective July 1.

Rep. Riesberg, D-Greeley, will succeed John J. Postolowski, who was appointed interim insurance commissioner on Dec. 1, after the departure of Marcy Morrison.

Rep. Riesberg worked 24 years at various insurers, including Allstate Insurance Co., a unit of Allstate Corp. He was first elected to the Colorado General Assembly in 2004, and is a ranking member of the House Health and Environment Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee.

He will resign the legislative post effective June 30.

Balance essential

“There’s important work to be done, including implementing the Health Benefit Exchange,” Rep. Riesberg said Monday in a statement. “This position will require striking a balance between the needs of the insurance industry with the needs of consumers, and I’m confident this can be accomplished.”

On June 1, Gov. Hickenlooper signed legislation that creates the Colorado Health Benefits Exchange, which establishes a voluntary, competitive insurance marketplace.

Mr. Postolowski, who joined the Colorado Division of Insurance in 1998, will return to his role as a deputy.
