BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

NEW YORK--James J. Schiro, chief executive officer of Zurich Financial Services Group, has been named the 2007 Insurance Leader of the Year by the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John's University.

Mr. Schiro has led the Zurich, Switzerland-based insurer's operations since May 2002. Before joining Zurich, Mr. Schiro was CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P.

"Jim has transformed Zurich since taking the helm at a difficult time," Brandon Sweitzer, chairman of the school's board of overseers, said in a statement, referring to the weak profitability of the company prior to Mr. Schiro's appointment. "He is an exceptional leader with a comprehensive, global view of risk taking and risk management."

Mr. Schiro is a graduate of New York-based St. John's University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and business administration in 1967.

Mr. Schiro will be honored at the school's 13th annual Insurance Leader of the Year award dinner on Jan. 16, 2008, at the Marriott Marquis in New York.

Last year's winner was Joe Plumeri, CEO of London-based Willis Group Holdings Ltd.
