A new Superfund advisory panel will hold its first public meetings June 18 and 19 in Washington and Alexandria. Va. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christine Whitman announced the creation of the panel--which includes business, government, labor and environmental activists representatives--on Thursday. The panel will examine the scope of the current Superfund program and how it relates to other state and federal cleanup programs....A former HIH Insurance Ltd. director, Rodney Adler, has been banned from acting as a company director for 20 years. The Supreme Court of New South Wales found that Mr. Adler had illegally attempted to prop up the share price of the defunct insurer through a $10 million Australian ($5.6 million) share purchase in 2000. Mr. Adler and his company were also fined $900,000 Australian.
