Mastercard fights to restrict scope of $19 billion UK class action

Mastercard Inc. is battling attempts to add about 14 million deceased people to over £14 billion ($19.3 billion) U.K. class action to limit the scope of the case, Reuters reported. Former financial ombudsman Walter Merricks, who is leading the mass consumer claim, alleges that Mastercard overcharged “interchange” fees for nearly 16 years to almost 60 million people including people who died between 1992 and 2008.
