Analysts at Morgan Stanley said that the expected rise in rates will be more durable in primary insurance lines than in reinsurance or retrocession following record levels of catastrophe losses in the third quarter of 2017, Artemis.bm reports. The analysts said that reinsurers may find their opportunity to underwrite at higher rates relatively short-lived if the market returns to a more benign loss environment and the weight of capital continues to build. The rate increases for primary commercial insurers will be more gradual but more durable over the longer-term, the analysts added.
