Farmers urged to insure crops ahead of rains due to El NinoReprints
Kenya's Insurance Regulatory Authority has urged farmers to insure their crops ahead of the expected rains due to El Nino in the month of October, reported Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
The country's meteorological department had recently warned that El Nino is likely to cause flooding in several regions of the country in October. Sammy Makove, chief executive of the IRA, said that insurance will reduce the risk burden for farmers. The country's El Nino contingency strategic plan for 2014-2018 predicts that 1,500,000 people could be in need of direct assistance because of floods.
