Alera buys Washington-area brokerage

Alera Group has acquired Silver Spring, Maryland-based Georgetown Insurance Services Inc., the brokerage announced Tuesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Georgetown places commercial and personal lines business and “works closely with the construction, manufacturing, real estate and transportation industries,” according to a statement from Deerfield, Illinois-based Alera.

The deal marks Alera’s first property/casualty acquisition in the Washington area, according to the statement.

Georgetown has additional offices in Frederick, Maryland, and Fairfax, Virginia, and employs about 20 people, led by CEO Remmie Buchko, according to its website.

Alera is the 17th largest broker of U.S. business, according to Business Insurance’s most recent ranking.
