Sompo Canopius A.G. on Monday said it has named Laurie Banez to the newly created role of head of U.S. financial and professional lines.
Previously, Ms. Banez was senior vice president, chief underwriting officer and head of Argo Pro, the U.S. professional lines platform of Argo Group International Holdings Ltd.
Ms. Banez will be based in New York, Sompo Canopius said in a statement.
“When considering expanding in U.S. casualty, we wanted to be sure that we did so in the right way and with the right people. With Laurie, we have found someone who has an impressive track record of starting up and growing profitable books of business,” Mike Duffy, chief underwriting officer for Sompo Canopius, said in the statement.
QBE North America, an operating division of QBE Insurance Group Ltd., has named John Burkhart to the new position of senior vice president, head of management liability and professional lines, the company said Thursday.
