Jim Carrey takes workers comp seriously

It turns out that actor and funnyman Jim Carrey did indeed pay for workers comp insurance.

But not so funny is that a mistake made by his workers comp insurer led to news stories reporting that Mr. Carrey had failed to purchase coverage for employees at his New York art studio, Church of FFC.

The reports stated that the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board fined him $72,000, for failing to purchase workers comp coverage for all of 2012, and that when the fine had not been paid, the workers comp board went to court attempting to collect.

A representative for Mr. Carrey had told reporters the issue was merely a clerical error.

The representative was correct. It was a clerical error on the part of insurer Travelers Cos. Inc., according to the workers comp board.
