Tennessee, 16 states sue EEOC over pregnancy accommodation rule

Tennessee, joined by 16 other states, has filed a lawsuit against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over a new rule requiring employers to offer "reasonable accommodations" to workers for pregnancy or childbirth, including time off for an abortion, BenefitsPro reports. The states argue that the EEOC's rule is an unconstitutional federal overreach that infringes on existing state laws. The rule, approved earlier this month, clarifies provisions of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which provides various protections for pregnant and postpartum workers.
