Since returning to American International Group Inc. in May 2017 to lead the insurer’s turnaround following disappointing financial results, Brian Duperreault has made a series of high-level appointments as he has restructured AIG’s operations.
Following are key appointments made since Mr. Duperreault was named CEO of AIG.
Peter Zaffino, who worked with Mr. Duperreault at Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc., joined AIG in June 2017 to lead its property/casualty operations.
In July 2017, AIG announced that Seraina Macia, who worked with Mr. Duperreault at Hamilton Insurance Group Ltd., would be rejoining AIG to head its technology subsidiary. The unit was later rebranded as Blackboard.
In September 2017, Bill Rabl joined AIG from Chubb Ltd. as CEO of AIG Risk Management.
September also saw the departure of Rob Schimek, formerly CEO of AIG’s commercial unit, as the insurer reorganized its business units.
In October 2017, AIG announced several senior appointments, including that former Novae Group P.L.C. executive Charles Fry had joined to head reinsurance, operations and transformation, general insurance; former Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Thomas Leonardi would join the insurer in the newly created position of executive vice president for government affairs, public policy and communications; former Ace Ltd. executive William Curcio would join the insurer as chairman of its AIG Risk Management unit; and MetLife Inc. executive Chris Townsend would join in 2018 in the newly created role of CEO, international general insurance.
In November 2017, AIG announced two senior internal promotions: Lex Baugh was named CEO of North America general insurance and George Stratts was named CEO of Lexington Insurance Co., replacing Jeremy Johnson.
In December 2017, the insurer announced that Tom Bolt, would be leaving Berkshire Hathaway Inc. to join AIG as chief underwriting officer, general insurance.
In January 2018, AIG announced that former Lockton Cos. L.L.C. exeutive Timothy DeSett would join as head of North America field operations in February.
In February 2018, AIG announced that former CIA general counsel Caroline Krass would join as senior vice president and general counsel, general insurance, and deputy general counsel of AIG.
In April 2018, AIG recruited Anthony Vidovich from XL Group Ltd. to be chief claims officer, general insurance, effective May 14. In addition, Barbara Luck joined AIG from XL as head of North American casualty, general insurance, effective May 7.
In May 2018, AIG announced Mark D. Lyons would return to AIG from Arch Capital Group Ltd. as senior vice president and chief actuary for general insurance, effective June 1. In December, AIG promoted Mr. Lyons to chief financial officer, replacing Sid Sankaran. Also, in May AIG also named Lisa Sun CEO of AIG Insurance Co. China Ltd., replacing Eric Zheng.
In June 2018, AIG named Jamie Miller to be North America property chief underwriting officer, general insurance. He joined from Swiss Re, where he was managing director, North America property and risk specialty lines.
In July 2018, the insurer said it had recruited former Arch Capital Group Ltd. executive David H. McElroy as CEO of its excess and surplus lines unit Lexington Insurance Co. to replace George Stratts, who left Lexington earlier this year.
In August 2018, AIG said it recruited former Aspen Re CEO Thomas Lillelund as CEO of AIG Europe S.A., one of the insurer’s new legal entities to handle its European business post-Brexit. Additionally, John Repko was named chief information officer, succeeding Martha Gallo.
In January 2019, AIG named former Chubb Ltd. executive Edward Levin to the newly created position of head of global accident and health.
American International Group Inc. has launched the new brand name Blackboard for its technology-focused subsidiary, which previously operated under the Hamilton USA brand, the insurer said Monday.
