A former USI Insurance Services LLC broker agreed Tuesday to not solicit his former employer’s active and prospective clients in order to comply with an employment agreement.
In an injunction entered in federal court in Columbus, Ohio, Alan Abouhassan is prohibited from soliciting or attempting to solicit business from USI’s clients until April 19, 2025, and its active prospective clients until Oct. 19, 2024.
Mr. Abouhassan must also return any of USI’s confidential information within 14 days and provide a sworn declaration that he did so.
USI sued Mr. Abouhassan on Feb. 13, saying he breached his employment agreement and a nonsoliciation provision by interfering with the broker’s business relationships with Kemba Financial Credit Union and Doyle HCM after he joined rival Hylant Group Inc.
Kemba and Doyle were prospective clients of USI and Mr. Abouhassan attempted to divert their business to Hylant before he joined the brokerage, court records show.
Mr. Abouhassan worked for USI from December 2020 until April 2023, according to court records.
The judge who entered the order wrote that USI would suffer irreparable harm if the injunction was not entered.
USI declined to comment.
A representative for Mr. Abouhassan did not respond to a request for comment.
