BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Former Alliant worker sues broker over overtime pay

FLSA

A former employee of Alliant Insurance Services Inc. sued the company Friday in federal court in New York, accusing the brokerage of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and the New York Labor Law.

Kareem Smith said she routinely worked 56 hours or more and sometimes six days a week during her tenure with Alliant from May 2023 until January 2024.

Her complaint says Alliant regularly failed to include her commission wages when computing her regular pay rate and overtime rate, which resulted in the underpayment of overtime wages.

Ms. Smith alleges that Alliant violated the New York Labor Law by retaliating against her and ultimately terminating her employment after she complained about being underpaid for overtime.

Representatives for the parties did not respond to requests for comment.
